Spring Decorating

Happy spring!

I am so excited for warmer weather! While it is technically spring now, it is still very cold where I live. So, while I wait for it to get warmer, I'm going to decorate the interior of my home.

So, grab a drink, snack, and a comfy seat, to enjoy some tips on decorating for spring!

Formal living

It took me a while to land on what to do here! First off on a coffee table, I like to have some sort of tray or a large book to start with, something that is easy to move around if I need to clear the table quickly. I also like layering books to give height and add another color. Then a vase to add a different shape, in my case, I added several vases, they act kind of like a sculptural object. And to be honest, often I find I have so many! Then I topped it off with some faux hydrangeas. I love fresh flowers, but faux florals can be just as good! They can be expensive for convincing ones but, I highly recommend them as an investment though, because I have had these since my wedding!

Kitchen

Kitchens are meant to be the most functional space in a home. There shouldn't be a lot of decoration here, but there are spots where it makes sense to have something pretty to look at. I found a couple of floral iron stone plates that I wanted to hang somewhere I could see them often, I was thinking of a cabinet, but I chose to add them to the wall above my stove. Another spot is around the sink, I chose to add a couple of bunnies I got from my mom. Lastly, kitchen towels on either the oven door or a dishwasher are a must, because they can add a pattern and be a good spot to dry off hands.

Family Room

In my home the family room is one of the most used, it's where my girls play and where I'm currently writing this now at my desk! I love decorating the mantel in this room. My mom always said that grouping items in odd numbers was the most visually appealing, but not to do too many. I usually stick with three to five items at most. On a mantel, though there are two ends, I find it looks balanced where there are three items on each end, or if one end is empty and the other has decor.

Decorating a Coffee table with little curious hands around isn't easy, so I tend to cater more to their needs, like toy storage! I found this basket at Deseret Industries (The DI) a while ago, and I thought it would be amazing for grouping decor. Here I added a vase of fresh flowers and a pair of bunnies, the rest of the space is all toys for my girls to grab and play with, it also helps (a little) with toy rotation! Then of course coffee table books! In my case, while the girls are young, I'm going to have kid books sitting out.

To be continued!

I forgot to mention in my YouTube video that I will also decorate outside! I have already started thinking of what to do!

In the meantime, it's okay not to have every room in your home decorated to the nines, but when there's intention, function, and a feeling of warmth in mind, visitors know they can feel at home, too. I hope you enjoyed this easy read, and I hope you come back for more! See you!
